The other parties and independent candidates had taken 7 seats with a combined vote share of 46.7 per cent.At the time of the previous general elections in 2014, Kerala had a total of 24,314,065 registered electors, of whom 73.98 per cent, or 17,987,124, exercised their right to franchise across 21,427 polling stations to choose their 20 Members of Parliament from among 269 candidates.The state has 140 Assembly constituencies. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) had won 5 seats with 21.8 per cent votes. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Indian National Congress had emerged as the single largest party in the state with 8 seats and a vote share of 31.5 per cent. The South Indian state of Kerala has 20 seats in the Lok Sabha.
